Day 297 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

         Today I am thankful that Dan and I started Christmas shopping!! I usually buy all or most of my gifts on Black Friday.  I am not sure I will be able to go to that this year because of my bad sciatica.  I need to use a walker and that is not conducive for the crowds on Black Friday.
Dan saw a few things in the Boscov's ad that he wanted to buy!! I went with him and purchased a few things.  I got an Eagles shirt and sweatpants for Olya's boyfriend Matt.  I got something for Olya in the Junior's department but she reads my blog so I can't say what it is!  Boscov's wraps gifts if you have the receipt!! I just love that.  You get to bring it home ready to go! Olya also wants a spice rack because she enjoys cooking and has become quite the chef!!  They had small flashlights that you could purchase for 99 cents with a five dollar purchase.  Dan got two and I got two.  Then we bought more items so Dan went to get two more flashlights.  "Mrs. Boscov" told Dan that he couldn't buy any more because he already bought two and he could only check them out with her!! I got them and checked them out in another department with no problem.  Sometimes the salespeople think they own the store.  I guess it is their moment of power!!! Every year we play a game while opening gifts so that it isn't over in 15 minutes.  Last year Dan and I wrapped a bunch of crap for them.  Dan brought home old phones from his office, I wrapped cookies with bites out of them, we wrapped old magazines, etc.!! Dan and I cracked up every time they opened a "Christmas Crap" gift!  I use to wrap big plastic rats for a few years but the girls threw them away last year!! I loved watching them open the rats and see the look on their faces!! So we will have to come up with something new for this year.
         When we went camping this past weekend, we went to Ollie's.  The girls loaded the cart with all sorts of things! Since it is a discount store and there isn't one close to where we live, we don' really mind what they get. And they get a lot!! They got blankets, and candles, and shampoo, and a diffuser, and board games, and snacks, and socks, etc.  Olivia loves Marilyn Monroe.  She got a book and CD on Marilyn Monroe, She never looked at it and it sat on the kitchen counter for three days! Dan was wrapping a Christmas present so I told him to wrap the book for her!  Wouldn't you just know that she walked right into the room as Dan had the book half wrapped?  Maybe that was a clue to her when she asked what he was doing.  She knew exactly what it was from the shape of the book.   Dan and I cracked up when she carried on! She wanted it back so Dan gave it to her but then she said no, just finish wrapping it!

          Today I am thankful that we are having a good time on our vacation in Texas!! We didn't have any set plans and just decided to do things as we had time.  Dan really wanted to visit NASA so we did that and we all enjoyed the visit.  Time just keeps moving forward in life and it is the simple things and shared moments that mean the most.  This was the MOST crowded place we went to on our trip. After Nasa we decided to head to Galveston.  We found a great place to tour.  It was called the Bishop's Palace. It was a beautiful historical house that was once owned by a very rich couple, Josephine and Walter Gresham, and later owned by the Catholic archdiocese of Galveston and became the Bishop's home.  The woodwork inside was magnificent and breathtaking!  Olivia and Olya really enjoyed touring the home.

Day 120 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

            Today I am thankful for the wonderful day I had on Sunday with my best friend Priscilla, and later with Dan.  I got up and went to a flea market in a close by shopping center.   I stopped at a Giant food store to get a flower for Priscilla's daughter's grave. I checked out and the male cashier asked me if I was Olivia's mother. He said and you have another daughter who was a year behind us, right?  He graduated with Olivia.  He asked me if she was still  at Penn State, what she was up to, etc.  I didn't expect that only because I was about 30 minutes away from home.  He told me that he had to drop out of the trade school he was in because he was in a bad motorcycle accident and has a metal rod in his leg and pins and screws in his collar bone and shoulder. I am not a fan of motorcycles!  I think they are so dangerous, especially because riders don't have to wear helmets.  Then I met up with Priscilla. Day 77 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

       Today is St Patty's Day! Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone!  This isn't a holiday that we usually ceIebrate because Dan and I are not big drinkers.  I don't drink at all, maybe a sip of champagne at a wedding but that is it. Today I am thankful  that Olivia and I are going to the thrift store. I love going to thrift stores. I absolutely need nothing but I always find something there.  My youngest daughter Olya is a great thrift store shopper, she always finds new name brand clothing. I guess if you're pretty and thin, you look good in anything! My girls could wear paper bags and look good! Since it is St Patrick's Day, the thrift shop is giving 17% off of purchases. So I am sure we will come home with plenty of stuff we don't need.       Today was Joe's birthday.  When we called him we asked what my granddaughter Kaylee wanted for her birthday in April.  She will be 7.
