Day 139 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

Today I am thankful for an afternoon of reading and gardening. I had nothing important planned and my house is clean and most of my wash was done.  I was reading Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste NG.  The book was fabulous! I couldn't put it down!
I was so sorry when it ended. I hope she writes a sequel to it. I had borrowed it from the library and it was due back today.  I got it out  almost two weeks ago from a waiting list but I was in the middle of reading something else for the library book club and I needed to get that read first. It was only a 14 day book and I just started it on Wed. this week.  This book is for my friend Jackie's book club which I am hosting next month.
When Renee, my third and youngest child at the time,  was in elementary school, I remember rushing to a school play she was in.  I had left work early to make it to the play. I hate it when elementary schools have school plays or events during the school day!  That does not really work for "working moms."   I had to sit in the back row.  Another mom who was sitting next to me, said...".is this your third child?"  And I said yes, how did you know?  She said "because you rushed in here right when it started.  I only got here a minute before you,  my fifth child is in the play."  She had a stack of magazines on  her lap.  She said, "for the first two kids, you arrive early with your camera and video camera and sit in the first two rows.  For the third, you arrive on time, sit in the back, and stand up and wave and take a picture or two.  For the fourth and fifth,  you bring magazines or a book and stand and wave once to make sure they see you." At the time, I only  had three children.   I had to laugh, thinking it was probably true.  My fourth and fifth had many years between them and Renee but I still always take my camera.  Yesterday at Renee's graduation and white coat ceremony we arrived about ten minutes before the ceremony but I did bring and read my book!  We had planned to be there earlier but it was an hour away and traffic was terrible. I'm glad we left for it when we did! The sound system was not good and I couldn't understand anything the speakers said! I was glad I had my book with me.
After I finished the book this afternoon, I did some gardening.  I am still trying to kill off the overgrown weeds.  I mixed weed killer with gallons of water and poured it all over the front on the weeds.  I hope I don't wind up having all the plants and bushes out front die!
Last night Dan went to bed about 10 pm.  I was sitting on the couch in the family room reading my book and heard a noise outside the glass sliding door. I thought I saw two beady eyes staring in at me, it sort of freaked me out!  I thought I saw a huge raccoon.  I told myself to stop thinking ridiculous things even though I had the heebee geebees!  A few minutes later, Olivia came running down the steps.  She had also heard some noise.  She turned the light on out back and we saw a HUGE raccoon upside down on our bird feeding pole snatching handfuls of bird seed from the feeder.
I banged on the glass door but he stayed there eating for awhile and then jumped down and stared at us! Olivia was laughing, she thought it was funny! That raccoon was NOT leaving until he was full!
What is with all the freaking ants??? I am thankful for ant spray!  They are all over the place! I have been spraying my windowsills and doorways.
