Day 134 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

         Today I am thankful for my Mother's Day gifts and cards and the time I spent with my family.  Olivia and Olya both wrote sweet and loving messages in the cards they gave me.  I was very touched by their messages.  Messages and time spent together are the things most moms really want.
  I can't have Amy back so the day will always be surrounded with sadness. After church, Dan and I went to the cemetery.  Then we went to Home Depot and I bought more flowers and weed killer. If only flowers grew as fast as weeds! I spent about an hour mixing the weed killer and poring it on the weeds.
        Dan and I and Olivia and Olya went to see Life of the Party with Melissa McCarthy. The movie theatre was mobbed! The movie was so funny! Renee called and said they would meet us for dinner after the movie. We ate at a place that Amy had worked at when she was in high school. We all had fun chatting and eating! I am thankful for my family. I am thankful for all the emails, messages and comments from friends and family.
Renee sent me this photo with a sweet message! I love Renee so much, it was hard to give her away that day! You finally get your kids to a decent age after the draining teenage years and they are young adults and then they up and leave! 


 My good friend Leslie sent me this Thinking of You card.  It was so thoughtful of her.  Leslie lost her own wonderful and loving mom when Leslie was about 19. Leslie was the oldest of 5 and essentially mothered her siblings. I truly love Leslie. She is a kind and thoughtful person and friend!

From my bereaved mom friend Debbie, Love her so much! We both lost our teenage children the same year.  I would not have made it this far without her support and love and her funny bad self!
     
        There are so many people who have sadness on holidays for many reasons.  Some of my friends have lost two children. I can't wrap my head around that much sadness and grief. So many of my friends lost their own moms when they were young.  My friends Leslie and Amy both lost their moms when they were young yet they became wonderful moms, wives, and friends. I guess their moms were so wonderful that they filled them up with enough love to go on and live their lives fully.  My Amy filled me up with an overabundance of love but it is still so difficult to go on without her.

                 MORE BAT NEWS!!   Yesterday another exterminator came.  The day before the exterminator from Terminix told me that he saw some guano, bat feces, in my attic and they could " fix " my problem for a year contract of $1400.  Today another exterminator came, he was in the attic a long time.  He said he didn't see any guano in my attic.  He didn't think the bats were hidden in the eaves like the Terminix guy thought because of the lack of guano! The second guy told me to find a handyman to close up an opening near my top roof siding and see if that works.  If not, he said they can come back and seal up the house for $795.  I think the Terminix guy just wanted me to sign a contract. Day 6 of Being Thankful

   Today I am thankful for my daughter Olya.  We adopted Olya from Ukraine in 2009.. Olya with her bio relatives Olya with a friend at her home in Ukraine  She was ten and a half years old when we adopted her.  My friend Maggie had found her for me in Ukraine,  She knew I wanted to adopt another girl in the 10-11 year old age range. Olivia was driving me crazy, she always wanted to be doing something. She really wanted a sibling!  I told Dan that we needed to adopt another girl close to Olivia's age so she would have a sibling to grow up with. Dan was fine with it, I think he was excited to go back to Ukraine!   Maggie works for Frontier Horizons, a hosting organization that brings orphans to the U.S. and other countries for a cultural experience. Maggie visits orphanages and selects children for hosting. They try to select children who are available for adoption but that isn't always the case.   It really is a pre-adoption...

Day 175 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

     Today I am thankful for the wonderful day we spent yesterday.  We went to a restaurant to celebrate Renee and Adam's birthday with about 25 people!   Adam's parents and his brother Dan and his girlfriend came.  Renee and Adam and his brothers and wives/girlfriends and parents are all going on a trip to Lebanon in August.  Renee is excited because she has never been there! Walid's family, Adam's father, owns a huge hospital in Lebanon. It was nice to see all of them. Renee married into a lovely family!  After lunch we all went back to Renee and Adam's house for a large party.  I am guessing about 50 people were at the party!  There was so much food.  There were trays and trays of wraps, sandwiches, fruit, and vegetables.  A huge tray of sushi was demolished in an hour!  I am not a sushi lover or liker so I didn't help eat any of that tray!
