Day 81 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

Today I am thankful that I finished wrapping presents and have them ready to go to the post office!  It always feels good to get a job completed. I stopped at the liquor store to get boxes the other day but the boxes weren't big enough so I had to go back today.  I wrapped my granddaughter Kaylee's gifts for her birthday which is April 1st. I got her two My Little Pony sets and another doll set.  I forgot to buy the brown wrapping paper to cover the box so I had to go out again and buy that. I think my memory cells are dying off!  Then I wrapped Easter gifts for both granddaughters and put a little bit of candy in the box.  I always put a dollar bill in a card because it makes the card more fun to open! I also always send something to my friend Debbie for her son Peter's grave. It might seem strange to others to shop for a deceased child but it is my normal.  I never got to meet Debbie's son Pete, but I wish I did. He seems like he was a great guy and a great son.  And I send to her granddaughters Brielle and Paige.  After I wrapped Debbie's box and taped it with packaging tape, I realized that I forgot to put the card in and one small gift.  So I had to rip the paper open and get the gift in the box and rewrap it. It looks like it was wrapped by  a deranged woman! Oh wait, it was!
The box looks like it has an entire roll of packaging tape on it!
For some strange reason, a flock of geese came up to my patio yesterday. They were honking away. I use to feed them but they pooped on the patio so much that I stopped doing that over a year ago. Maybe they were hungry and remembered that I use to feed them. Wherever there are geese, there is geese poop.  My cat is such a goofball. I just let him out, he stops and sniffs the geese poop and tries to cover it up.  There isn't anything on the patio to cover it up with but Nittany kept trying to do that! He kept scratching the patio with his paws like he does in his litter. I just opened the door to let Nittany come in but he had a small dead mouse in his mouth so I didn't let him in! I tried to shoo him away from the mouse he dropped on the outside mat, but he picked it up and ran far away with it.  I guess it is in his nature to do that. I once read that cats are the only domesticated animals that could make it on their own in the wild. That is because they can hunt birds and small rodents and fish. I also think they could easily become food for another predator. We have hermit crabs that Olya bought during senior week. Of course she didn't want to take them to college so I am taking care of them.  They rarely move around during the day. I just keep giving them food and water and every once in awhile I hear them moving around. Our Keurig is right next to the tank.  Olivia came down to get a drink in the middle of the night and saw Nittany sitting on the top of the Keurig watching the hermit crabs!
Nittany has such a cute little face!

Our cat is always into something. I often come down in the morning and he has knocked all the books off the coffee tables or knocked something off a windowsill. It seems he comes "to life" when we are all asleep. He does keep life interesting and keeps us entertained. . I am thankful that he is a fun cat! It was snowing today, the flakes were huge, white, silver dollar pancake size flakes.  I let him out and he kept chasing the snowflakes! Olivia wants us to get another cat so that Nittany has a friend.  I told her that we are his friends! I don't want another pet because it is so hard to lose them. Every once in a while Nittany swishes at our legs with his paw when we walk by.  I don't think it's a love swish, it's more like a mad swish, not sure why he does it but I find it funny, it doesn't hurt. He also uses his paws like hands.  He is our fifth cat and he is the first one that actually uses his paw to pick up food and lift it up to his mouth!
I thought writing a blog everyday about being thankful was going to be a bit difficult, but it really isn't.  I think I take a lot for granted in life and I am glad that I am trying to be thankful for the people and experiences in my life.
