Day 70 of 365 Days of BeingThankful

Today I am thankful for going out to dinner with my family. I wanted to go to Dave and Busters but Olya wanted to go to a Chinese buffet.  This is Olya's last day home for Spring Break. She loves seafood and Chinese food so we are going to a Chinese seafood buffet. The food is always hot and delicious. Olya loves crab legs, it is her favorite food!  The only problem is eating too much because it all smells delicious and tastes fantastic. I always eat too much at a buffet.  When Olivia first came to the U.S., she didn't have much tact.  Most Ukrainians just say what they want to say!  She and I were on the boardwalk in our bathing suits and cover-ups.  Olivia was about 9 at the time, we had adopted her in June and we went to the beach in July. We walked up to a pizza stand to get food for lunch.  There was a very heavy man with a protruding stomach  behind us.  All of a sudden, Olivia sees him and blurts out....."Mom, he ate tooo much food !"  I wanted to crawl under the boardwalk in embarrassment because she said it rather loudly and I knew he heard. I always think of her statement when I am eating tooo much food at a buffet! Most of the people in Ukraine are very slim. Our Russian friend told us that was because their genes adjusted to being starved.  I don't know if that statement is true or not but I never saw even one overweight person in Ukraine, male or female.  And the females are all so good looking.  Ukrainians serve small portions and don't seem to overeat. They didn't have supersized options at the McDonalds we ate at.  In restaurants, they serve sandwiches open on one piece of bread. Their kitchens and storage areas in their homes and apartments are small so they shop every few days.  It seems like they shop for one or two meals at a time. Since they are thin, we should take a page out of their books!

Tomorrow Olya goes back to school.  She is almost finished with her second semester at PSU.  She is going to take one summer course which is Economics. I am so glad she is almost finished her first year and can take a summer break, except for the one course.  Olya works really hard for her grades and the schoolwork is difficult.
