Day 283 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

         Today I am thankful for coupons!  
My dad was the extreme coupon KING long before TV shows about couponing.  He had his own system, he used envelopes and sorted by category.  He would buy extra newspapers when there were great coupons and savings.  He loved to say "they paid me to take it out of the store."  His favorite items were toiletries.  A few years after my dad died, my sister's husband came up from the basement and incredulously said "we are out of toilet paper!!!!" He was dumbfounded!  Due to my dad, we NEVER ever were out of toilet paper or shampoo or deodorant!!! Due to his legacy, my sister and I always use coupons when we can!
My dad also always said"they don't print them because they don't want you to use them." Last night Renee and Adam went to get frozen yogurt.  And being my daughter, Renee told her husband that they should take a coupon each.  So they each had a two dollar off coupon for frozen yogurt!  Renee ordered hers and waited for Adam.  He came back with a much larger than normal frozen yogurt.  Renee asked him why he got such a huge yogurt and he said, well, I used the coupon.  She said "you were supposed to get the regular size and save $2 with the coupon! He said to her, "you use your coupon your way and I'll use my coupon my way."  LOL, he is funny, he figured he was going to put out so much money without a coupon that  he used those savings to get a larger yogurt!!!!
         I write my blog a day in advance and publish it the next day.  Today I am going to Olivia's cosmetology school and let her cut my hair!  "I must be crazy," you say!  And I probably am but it is only  hair and it will grow back!!  She told me to get to the salon between 2 and 2:30.
 At 2:15 she kept calling me to tell me to hurry up.  I was close to the salon and stopped to go to the bathroom and get gas.  She told me that I should have been at the salon!  Olivia has NO PATIENCE!  After I went in WAWA, I got an ice cream cone!  When I got to the salon I was eating it and Olivia came out to the car and said..."you stopped at WAWA to get ice cream, not to use the rest room!" I really didn't stop just for ice cream, but I wasn't hiding it!(ALWAYS about the food)! I still got there before 2:30 as she told me!!
         I am back from the salon and Olivia did a good job cutting my hair!! They didn't even charge me because Olivia is my daughter(and we pay her tuition religiously)! She told me to get up when she was done because she had to go help clean up.  I said, "OK, I was getting money to give you a tip but we can forget it and I'll get up right away."  I handed her a twenty dollar bill. All of a sudden it was OK for me to take a few more minutes!!

                 MORE BAT NEWS!!   Yesterday another exterminator came.  The day before the exterminator from Terminix told me that he saw some guano, bat feces, in my attic and they could " fix " my problem for a year contract of $1400.  Today another exterminator came, he was in the attic a long time.  He said he didn't see any guano in my attic.  He didn't think the bats were hidden in the eaves like the Terminix guy thought because of the lack of guano! The second guy told me to find a handyman to close up an opening near my top roof siding and see if that works.  If not, he said they can come back and seal up the house for $795.  I think the Terminix guy just wanted me to sign a contract. Day 6 of Being Thankful

   Today I am thankful for my daughter Olya.  We adopted Olya from Ukraine in 2009.. Olya with her bio relatives Olya with a friend at her home in Ukraine  She was ten and a half years old when we adopted her.  My friend Maggie had found her for me in Ukraine,  She knew I wanted to adopt another girl in the 10-11 year old age range. Olivia was driving me crazy, she always wanted to be doing something. She really wanted a sibling!  I told Dan that we needed to adopt another girl close to Olivia's age so she would have a sibling to grow up with. Dan was fine with it, I think he was excited to go back to Ukraine!   Maggie works for Frontier Horizons, a hosting organization that brings orphans to the U.S. and other countries for a cultural experience. Maggie visits orphanages and selects children for hosting. They try to select children who are available for adoption but that isn't always the case.   It really is a pre-adoption...

Day 175 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

     Today I am thankful for the wonderful day we spent yesterday.  We went to a restaurant to celebrate Renee and Adam's birthday with about 25 people!   Adam's parents and his brother Dan and his girlfriend came.  Renee and Adam and his brothers and wives/girlfriends and parents are all going on a trip to Lebanon in August.  Renee is excited because she has never been there! Walid's family, Adam's father, owns a huge hospital in Lebanon. It was nice to see all of them. Renee married into a lovely family!  After lunch we all went back to Renee and Adam's house for a large party.  I am guessing about 50 people were at the party!  There was so much food.  There were trays and trays of wraps, sandwiches, fruit, and vegetables.  A huge tray of sushi was demolished in an hour!  I am not a sushi lover or liker so I didn't help eat any of that tray!
