Day 251 of 365 Days of Being Thankful
Today I am thankful that I stopped into CVS on my way home.
They were having a summer 75% off toy clearance sale. I got a bagful of stuff for about $30. Our church has two toy drives at Christmas. One is for children of prisoners and the other is for low income family's children in North Philadelphia! Whenever I see something like the clearance sale, I try to load up for those children.
Today I am also thankful that I made another doctor's appointment to deal with my sciatica. It has not gotten any better, I think it is even worse. It is ruining my quality of life. I have an appointment on Wed with a pain and spine center and I have an appointment the end of the month with another doctor. I am so glad to have these appointments to look forward to. Perhaps one of them has a treatment for me!! I think that I need a few opinions on what to do. My friend Priscilla hooked me up with some Facebook sciatica groups and I am thankful that she did!
I found this info online. It describes the condition perfectly. It feels like my leg is being burned with a hot poker from a roaring fire from my left hip to my toes..
Sciatica is a pain that spreads out to the lower back, buttocks, down the leg to the foot. The pain is caused due to the pinching or inflammation of the sciatica nerve. This sciatica pain usually subsides in a few weeks time and in rare cases it may ail the person for a few months. The nervous system constitutes the sciatic nerve, which is the largest nerve in the body. It starts from the spinal cord and runs down to the lower back, thigh region and the knees. At the knee joint, it divides into two nerves, one of which runs down the back portion of the leg to the foot and the other on the front portion of the leg into the foot. The sciatica nerve is not only responsible for the feeling and sensation within the leg but also it controls the muscles in the leg and the foot. Sciatica as the name suggests, is a condition ailing the sciatica nerve due to irritation in it which may arise due to nerve dysfunction or nerve compression. The pain due to sciatica can be both acute as well as chronic. The Acute sciatica pain is a short term condition which does not require much of professional treatment but can be treated with over the counter medications, exercises and hot and cold application. On the other hand, the chronic sciatica pain lasts for more than a month and requires chiropractic help along with heat application, exercising and surgery
This article says a few weeks but I have had this for several months!! I am ALWAYS a rare case! I NEVER knew that the sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body. I think I have chronic and acute sciatica.
