Day 225 of 365 Days of Being Thankful
Today I am thankful that I started purging items from my house. I would like to move. I am starting to clean out my house as if I am going to move.
Dan doesn't want to move until Olya finishes college which is three years from now. I think it will take me that long to purge the crap I've collected over the years! Years ago, a friend of mine said..........."if you haven't used it in 3 or more years, chances are that you'll never use it again." And I think that is really true! I am in pursuit of a simple, joyful life. The more space you have, the more crap you collect! Getting rid of stuff can be hard to do. Why do we all store crap that we just throw away or give away years later? Yesterday Olivia took a bunch of prom dresses and a few handbags to Plato's Closet. They didn't want the prom dresses. I spent hundreds on those dresses at David's Bridal and Neiman Marcus. Plato's Closet only wanted one Michael Kors purse that I paid $200 for. It looked almost brand new! They gave Olivia $16 so I am just going to take the rest of the clean-out stuff to Goodwill. After I really purge a closet or a cabinet or a room, I feel really good! Today I purged a closet in our guest room and now it is almost empty! A lot of the stuff in the closet belonged to Renee but she didn't want it so I bagged it all up for Goodwill. I still had her prom gowns, sleeping bags, books, DVDs, etc. A few ears ago, we had a garage sale. Anything people asked the price about, Dan said..."a quarter." He just wanted to get rid of the crap and not bring it back inside!
My sister hides money in the weirdest places in her house. She told me NOT to throw anything away in her house before I go through it if anything ever happens to her! She never throws anything away. I told her that that will be her kids' job. I have enough of my own crap to go through! I am usually fairly neat and organized, it is just the stuff like prom gowns, fancy dresses and shoes, and holiday decor that really pile up. I always donate read books immediately to the library because books can take up a lot of space. We have tons of landscape/gardening stuff in our garage but we have our grass cut by a company and I have them do any extra work! Dan is still working on purging the basement to make room for Olivia's GLAM ROOM. That has been at a standstill for months.
