Day 195 of 365 Days of Being Thankful
Today I am thankful that we are staying at a nice hotel in Pittsburgh and away from the bats, at least for a few days! We got a suite at a Hyatt Hotel which is just lovely. On the way here, the top part of the birthday cake slid off of the bottom layer. I sort of squished it back together. Fortunately, we have a suite with a kitchenette and large refrigerator. I put the cake in there and it looks almost as good as new! It looks pretty good! We have a living room, a small kitchen, and a separate bedroom with two double beds. Olya is staying in Renee's room because Adam didn't come, he had to work.
I brought a card and everyone signed it for Olivia! I'll take the cake to dinner tonight! Pennie wrote something about the "cleaning lady" in the card. The first summer Olivia was in the U.S., Dan took her camping. She was probably in the U.S. less than a month but had a small stock of words she could speak. We only had a tent at that time. Pennie and Larry had a really nice, large camper which Olivia just loved!! She called me and told me in her thick Russian accent, "mommy, it is like a "leettle" house!" One day it was pouring rain, drenching everything!! Larry and Dan were outside in the pouring rain trying to get a tarp over the tent. And Pennie and Olivia were in the camper playing Old Maid and eating ice cream!! Olivia called the Old Maid card the Cleaning Lady card! The first summer that Oya was in the U.S., Dan took the girls camping agin with Pennie and Larry. I was working teaching summer school! There was a fantastic beach at the campground. Dan didn't have any beach toys so he gave them pots and pans to play with in the sand. Olivia refers to the incident as the "homeless" girls playing in the sand without real beach toys! Hey, Dan improvised!!
Olivia wanted me to stop for her to get some food as soon as I picked her up from Cosmetology school yesterday. It was only 11:30 am. I said no, I was going to drive for about an hour because we had a five hour drive in front of us. Olivia kept saying I had to stop because the three of them were hungry. I laughed and said....not happening, I am driving and I am not stoppping now! She was none too happy and said she was going to call "child abuse" services and tell them I was mistreating her by starving her. I said, "you will be 21 in a few days, you are not a child any more and have not been one for several years! I said..go ahead and call them. They will tell you that you don't have to put up with me and my abusive ways, move out, you are an adult. Get a full-time job and support yourself and eat whatever whenever you want!!
We stopped at a WAWA and she got exactly what she wanted to eat! The entire group is at the ZOO but I didn't go because of my sciatica. Zoos are lots of walking and I just can't do that until I am able to get a shot in my back! It is nice to be with the Fleddermans!!
