Day 191 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

         Today I am thankful that we went out to dinner with our friends Joni and Lee. A friend of Joni's has a beauty salon in her basement.  Joni has been going to her for years.  The woman lives in the township next to us.  Whenever they go for haircuts after work, they call us and we meet them for dinner or dessert.  Olivia and Frankie came so that Joni could meet Frankie. She liked him because he's Italian like her! She thought he was good looking and nice so he passed her test!  Joni and Lee just moved into a new house.   I would move and downsize in a heartbeat if Dan would agree.  He wants to stay here until Olya graduates from college.  This house is too big to keep neat and to clean.  We have a lawn service but they only mow and there is soooo much yard work.  I just don't have the energy to keep up with it.  This year I have weeded a few times but I have only trimmed the bushes once or twice.
        I am also thankful for these beautiful flowers that my sister brought from a book club I had belonged to. Those women are some of the nicest women I have ever met.  They are all nice!  It was so kind of them to think of me.  My sister was going to bring them when I was in the hospital but I got released the day she was going to bring them. They smell lush and delicious! And they are so pretty!  I love flowers.  If I didn't have so many freaking deer in my yard, I would have lots of rose bushes.  Roses are my favorite flowers.  I only can plant deer resistant flowers and plants.  The deer have eaten flowers and bushes I planted that stated they were deer resistant!

                 MORE BAT NEWS!!   Yesterday another exterminator came.  The day before the exterminator from Terminix told me that he saw some guano, bat feces, in my attic and they could " fix " my problem for a year contract of $1400.  Today another exterminator came, he was in the attic a long time.  He said he didn't see any guano in my attic.  He didn't think the bats were hidden in the eaves like the Terminix guy thought because of the lack of guano! The second guy told me to find a handyman to close up an opening near my top roof siding and see if that works.  If not, he said they can come back and seal up the house for $795.  I think the Terminix guy just wanted me to sign a contract. Day 6 of Being Thankful

   Today I am thankful for my daughter Olya.  We adopted Olya from Ukraine in 2009.. Olya with her bio relatives Olya with a friend at her home in Ukraine  She was ten and a half years old when we adopted her.  My friend Maggie had found her for me in Ukraine,  She knew I wanted to adopt another girl in the 10-11 year old age range. Olivia was driving me crazy, she always wanted to be doing something. She really wanted a sibling!  I told Dan that we needed to adopt another girl close to Olivia's age so she would have a sibling to grow up with. Dan was fine with it, I think he was excited to go back to Ukraine!   Maggie works for Frontier Horizons, a hosting organization that brings orphans to the U.S. and other countries for a cultural experience. Maggie visits orphanages and selects children for hosting. They try to select children who are available for adoption but that isn't always the case.   It really is a pre-adoption...

Day 175 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

     Today I am thankful for the wonderful day we spent yesterday.  We went to a restaurant to celebrate Renee and Adam's birthday with about 25 people!   Adam's parents and his brother Dan and his girlfriend came.  Renee and Adam and his brothers and wives/girlfriends and parents are all going on a trip to Lebanon in August.  Renee is excited because she has never been there! Walid's family, Adam's father, owns a huge hospital in Lebanon. It was nice to see all of them. Renee married into a lovely family!  After lunch we all went back to Renee and Adam's house for a large party.  I am guessing about 50 people were at the party!  There was so much food.  There were trays and trays of wraps, sandwiches, fruit, and vegetables.  A huge tray of sushi was demolished in an hour!  I am not a sushi lover or liker so I didn't help eat any of that tray!
