Day 160 of 365 Days of Being Thankful
Today I am thankful that we only have two cars. We use to have three until one was totaled in an accident. We have to drive the girls to school and to work and pick them up. Fortunately, Olya's cousin is in the same summer class and usually takes her to class and picks her up. Once in awhile Dan has had to drive her to Natasha's house or to school. Dan does the morning run for Olivia's cosmetology school and Olya's job at the bagel shop. I do the pickups of both girls. Sometimes Dan has to pick up Olya if I also have to take Olivia to work. It is a LOT of driving and running around and a LOT of gas! However, it is nice to spend some quality chatting time with one or both girls. That doesn't happen as much as the girls have gotten older. They hibernate in their bedrooms with their cell phones! Right now they are both 20 which makes them Irish twins. They are Ukrainian-American Irish twins. Olivia will be 21 next month! That is scary!!
Olivia was telling me today about going to Geno's Steaks in Philadelphia with Dan and her boyfriend Frankie. There was a homeless guy on the street and Dan gave him a few dollars. Dan said to the guy "try to get a job." Olivia said it isn't feasible for him to get a job. He has no address, no place to shower and no clean clothes to put on. Dan told her to keep that in mind, that when you start to slide down a hole, get out as fast as you can before you keep sinking. Homelessness is a huge problem and it is almost impossible to get out of it without major intervention.
Our next celebration will be Father's Day. We are all going to Renee and Adam's country club for lunch. They just joined this month. Adam loves to golf! Then later Dan will grill steaks for dinner. I am thinking board games!!!!!!!!! When I was food shopping yesterday, steaks were on sale, buy one, get one free.
I purchased a few packages and put them in the freezer. I am not allowed to eat red meat so I will probably wind up eating a turkey burger and salad. Then we will have Renee and Adam's birthday celebration at the end of the month. They are having a party at their house.
I also found dairy free ice cream sandwiches. They were very difficult to find. They are small,
about the size of two Oreo cookies, they can be eaten in about two bites. They are less than half the size of a regular ice cream sandwich!! Eight in the box, which are teeny tiny, cost $4.95! And that type of item never goes on sale! I'm not sure they will last until Sunday!
