Day 152 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

        Today I am so thankful that I didn't have to stay overnight in the hospital.  Dan had to take me to the ER because I got sick again, same symptoms but worse. I was also vomiting.  They gave me nausea and pain meds, ran some tests and gave me the option of staying overnight or going home. We were at the hospital from 9 pm - 7 am.  I was so glad to get home and sleep in my own bed!  The ER doc thought I picked up a stomach virus while I was in the hospital.  I feel better today but I am very weak.  Last night I went to see the movie "Book Club" with 7 friends., organized by my friend Candy.
The movie was funny, I love hanging with those friends, they are all so nice! I started feeling sick halfway through the movie but I was determined to finish the movie! I really wanted to go out to eat with them after the movie but I knew I couldn't make it.
        Today is Olivia's "Gotcha Day." It is the day she and Dan landed in the U.S. at the Philadelphia airport! I remember the day so clearly.  She was so excited and smiling from ear to ear! She got in the back seat, and said Hi mommy!  I was thinking to myself, OK, now what do we do with her?   She fit right into the space in our hearts. I am thankful that Olivia has been in our family for 11 years.
      Today is also Olya's and Amy's birthday.  I am thankful that I had Amy for 18 years but it will never be long enough. I miss her everyday.  Dan and I went and bought helium balloons and took them to the cemetery for Amy.  I just can't bring myself to sing Happy Birthday to her. Olya and Matt went to the cemetery after we went. Olya always remembers Amy.  Olivia wanted to go to the cemetery but she had to work until 5 and the cemetery locks the doors at 4:30.
  Olya's boyfriend Matt came to spend the weekend for her birthday.  He is a very nice young man and I like him a lot.

  Dan took Olivia, her boyfriend Frankie, Olya, and Matt to Dave and Busters to celebrate Olya's 20th birthday. we always let our kids pick the restaurant for their birthday dinner.

Renee and Adam are meeting them at the restaurant.  I am too sick and weak to go but I know they will all have a wonderful time!  I am sad to be missing another big event but not much I can do about it.  Afterwards,  they will all come back home for cake and ice cream.  I baked the chocolate cake, it is fat free, sugar free and cholesterol free and tastes really good! The mix was sugar free, I  substitute applesauce for oil to make it fat free, and I use egg whites instead of whole eggs to make it cholesterol free.

                 MORE BAT NEWS!!   Yesterday another exterminator came.  The day before the exterminator from Terminix told me that he saw some guano, bat feces, in my attic and they could " fix " my problem for a year contract of $1400.  Today another exterminator came, he was in the attic a long time.  He said he didn't see any guano in my attic.  He didn't think the bats were hidden in the eaves like the Terminix guy thought because of the lack of guano! The second guy told me to find a handyman to close up an opening near my top roof siding and see if that works.  If not, he said they can come back and seal up the house for $795.  I think the Terminix guy just wanted me to sign a contract. Day 6 of Being Thankful

   Today I am thankful for my daughter Olya.  We adopted Olya from Ukraine in 2009.. Olya with her bio relatives Olya with a friend at her home in Ukraine  She was ten and a half years old when we adopted her.  My friend Maggie had found her for me in Ukraine,  She knew I wanted to adopt another girl in the 10-11 year old age range. Olivia was driving me crazy, she always wanted to be doing something. She really wanted a sibling!  I told Dan that we needed to adopt another girl close to Olivia's age so she would have a sibling to grow up with. Dan was fine with it, I think he was excited to go back to Ukraine!   Maggie works for Frontier Horizons, a hosting organization that brings orphans to the U.S. and other countries for a cultural experience. Maggie visits orphanages and selects children for hosting. They try to select children who are available for adoption but that isn't always the case.   It really is a pre-adoption...

Day 175 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

     Today I am thankful for the wonderful day we spent yesterday.  We went to a restaurant to celebrate Renee and Adam's birthday with about 25 people!   Adam's parents and his brother Dan and his girlfriend came.  Renee and Adam and his brothers and wives/girlfriends and parents are all going on a trip to Lebanon in August.  Renee is excited because she has never been there! Walid's family, Adam's father, owns a huge hospital in Lebanon. It was nice to see all of them. Renee married into a lovely family!  After lunch we all went back to Renee and Adam's house for a large party.  I am guessing about 50 people were at the party!  There was so much food.  There were trays and trays of wraps, sandwiches, fruit, and vegetables.  A huge tray of sushi was demolished in an hour!  I am not a sushi lover or liker so I didn't help eat any of that tray!
