Day 141 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

        Today I am thankful for finishing filling my pots with plants!! I love flowers!  After church, we came home and I finished with the trays of flowers.  I hope they all bloom well. I usually empty out half of the potting soil in a planter and then refill is with new soil before I put in the summer annuals. As soon as I finished, there was a huge downpour of rain.  I am glad because then I don't have to water al of the pots. It was like a gift from above.














Now I just have to sweep up next to the plants(or maybe it will rain again and the dirt will wash away) but I am so thankful to be finished with the job! I couldn't stand looking at the little plants in their original slotted containers from the store! About twenty years ago, a guy I went to high school with worked in a local nursery.  He told me to pull the flower heads off of  the plants when I plant them  because then all of the power goes to the roots and you get bigger flowers when they bloom.  I did that for a few summers and had huge plants, the biggest and most colorful flowers ever!  He moved, and I forgot about it.  Today I remembered but I just couldn't do it, I just couldn't pull off the flower heads and buds. I don't know why but I felt like the flowers wouldn't like it.....................and I know that's weird!!!!(so stop judging, I already know it's weird!!!!) Hopefully, the next time I post pictures of these pots, the flowers will be twice as big!
         
          Yesterday Dan and I went food shopping.  The sirloin steaks packages were buy one, get one free.  We bought two packages of steaks. I have been marinating them all day so they should be really tender. I made a regular salad and fruit salad today.  It is always strange that while I am making the food, no one is around to help but when I am ready to serve, they all magically appear! I am also making corn on the cob.  I didn't eat too much today because I am trying to lose weight but this dinner may make me gain!  I am thankful for eating a nice dinner with my family.  I invited Renee but she is studying for her boards and already took off from studying this afternoon to go to a craft market with Adam.  Renee has two more job interviews this week! She is on fire!  She really wants to take the fellowship she was offered but she should go to the other interviews to check out the salary and job positions.

                 MORE BAT NEWS!!   Yesterday another exterminator came.  The day before the exterminator from Terminix told me that he saw some guano, bat feces, in my attic and they could " fix " my problem for a year contract of $1400.  Today another exterminator came, he was in the attic a long time.  He said he didn't see any guano in my attic.  He didn't think the bats were hidden in the eaves like the Terminix guy thought because of the lack of guano! The second guy told me to find a handyman to close up an opening near my top roof siding and see if that works.  If not, he said they can come back and seal up the house for $795.  I think the Terminix guy just wanted me to sign a contract. Day 6 of Being Thankful

   Today I am thankful for my daughter Olya.  We adopted Olya from Ukraine in 2009.. Olya with her bio relatives Olya with a friend at her home in Ukraine  She was ten and a half years old when we adopted her.  My friend Maggie had found her for me in Ukraine,  She knew I wanted to adopt another girl in the 10-11 year old age range. Olivia was driving me crazy, she always wanted to be doing something. She really wanted a sibling!  I told Dan that we needed to adopt another girl close to Olivia's age so she would have a sibling to grow up with. Dan was fine with it, I think he was excited to go back to Ukraine!   Maggie works for Frontier Horizons, a hosting organization that brings orphans to the U.S. and other countries for a cultural experience. Maggie visits orphanages and selects children for hosting. They try to select children who are available for adoption but that isn't always the case.   It really is a pre-adoption...

Day 175 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

     Today I am thankful for the wonderful day we spent yesterday.  We went to a restaurant to celebrate Renee and Adam's birthday with about 25 people!   Adam's parents and his brother Dan and his girlfriend came.  Renee and Adam and his brothers and wives/girlfriends and parents are all going on a trip to Lebanon in August.  Renee is excited because she has never been there! Walid's family, Adam's father, owns a huge hospital in Lebanon. It was nice to see all of them. Renee married into a lovely family!  After lunch we all went back to Renee and Adam's house for a large party.  I am guessing about 50 people were at the party!  There was so much food.  There were trays and trays of wraps, sandwiches, fruit, and vegetables.  A huge tray of sushi was demolished in an hour!  I am not a sushi lover or liker so I didn't help eat any of that tray!
