Day 140 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

Today I am thankful that Dan and I took a ride to the Wild bird store to get more pepper seed for the outdoor birds.  Now that the raccoon is also eating their seed, the container empties so much sooner!  Who knew that raccoons te pepper seeds?  The squirrels don't eat that cayenne pepper seed. The raccoon eats from both feeders.  Maybe he mixes the sunflower seeds with the pepper seed so he doesn't taste the hot seeds as much.  He sticks in hands in both feeders and gobbles it up.  I also put bagels on the pole because Olya brings home bags of bagels from the place she works! A baker comes in early morning and makes fresh bagels everyday.  Sometimes they run out of  bagels on holidays, such as Mother's Day, and then they close early. The bagels last a day or two on the pole.  I see the birds pecking at them all day and there is usually one or no bagels left in the morning.  The squirrels and raccoons love the bagels!
Dan looked up the addresses of some Goodwill stores near the bird place so I got to go to some I had never been to before.  I got brand new curlers for the GLAM ROOM and a yoga mat, both new in sealed packages.  I also got a turquoise basket and it is so cute! All blue tagged items were 75% off on Saturdays so I got some great buys!  I got a few new items for the girls' summer birthdays.  Olya,  Amy, and Renee all have birthdays in June,  and Olivia's birthday is in July. I usually try to find something for Ay's gravestone.  There are so many items on her stone that I don't think I can fit anything else.  Olivia's early birthday gift was the mirror for the GLAM ROOM because that was a few hundred dollars.  But since she will be 21, I also got her a few small things in addition to the mirror. I will mostly give Olya money but also a few gifts.  I don't really like to buy clothes for them any more because they never like what I buy! And I hate to return things! I started looking for a cane because my arthritis is bad in my left leg but I decided not to get one yet!  Dan likes to ride in the car and eat and read the newspaper so he finds me Goodwill stores for me to stop in.  I loved the three stores we went to today! I need nothing but somehow I still buy things!
Last night we went out to dinner with our friends Deb and David  They lost their 21 year old son Hayden to drugs a few years ago.  He was their middle child just like Amy.  Deb and I have been friends for over a year and have had lunch together a few times but this was the first time we had dinner with our husbands.  I am thankful for the time at dinner. David was very nice and he and Dan got along well.  It was like hanging out with old friends!  David was so funny!  His mother is 91 and lives in FL. Over the holidays they went to visit her at her assisted living home, she wanted them to go to her New years Eve party at the home.  He said they felt they had to go and he put his fingers to his head like he was blowing his brains out and made the gun shot noise!  David said that during the party, while there was dancing and merriment, an elderly man fell and passed out. A team of men in black coats, like a swat team, quickly came/descended in and removed the man, and everything continued as it had been.  David was concerned and said, should we go check on the man?  And the people at his table said no, this happens all the time! Later the doors where he had been carried out were opened and the man went by on a gurney, he was waving and saying,  it's ok, I'm good! I guess there is always a standby team to assist elderly people who pass out or have a medical issue.
Olivia and Olya were both at sleep overs last night so the house was really quiet when we got home.  I was glad I go to go to bed at a decent time instead of having to wait up for one of them! Olya doesn't usually stay out late on the weekends because she has to be at work at the bagel shop quite early!  Last night my phone rang about 2:30 am.  I was in a deep sleep and didn't quite know if it was ringing in my dreams or was real. Then the message said call from Renee.  I forced myself to get out of bed and call her back.  She had accidentally butt dialed me!!!!!
