Day 65 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

     Today I am thankful that we went to the Natural History Museum in NY. We always find a museum whenever we travel. We always get all the special attractions and movies in case we never get there again.  We went to the butterfly house .

One of them landed on Olivia’s cell phone. We saw a planetarium show about dark matter. Of course we made a visit to the food court for lunch. NY is so expensive!  Lunch was about fifty dollars and we didn’t get that much,I had one piece of pizza and a cup of water, Dan had a tuna sandwich, Olivia had chicken tenders and fries and Olya had a chicken wing and mashed potatoes  After lunch we viewed the air and space center and the dinosaur exhibit  we went to a special show about the senses and ended the day with a 3D film about birds in flight. They rigged cameras onto the birds so we really had a bird’s eye view of birds in flight!  I love birds and learned a lot I didn’t know. After our outing to the history museum weeent back to our hotel and rested. Later we got dinner from Chik

Fil A.  We stayed in that night and watched tv. Dan and I watched in one room and the girls watched in the other. They wanted to watch the Kardashian’s and I am not a fan.  Our hotel is really nice. We are two short blocks to Times Square and Broadway. We got two rooms because we all want our own bed. I am glad we don’t have to get in and out of taxis all day. When we got to NY we got in a supposed Uber. The guy charged us fifty dollars. He didn’t have a meter. On the way back to the train station we took a cab for eight dollars so we were royally ripped off. The guy said to Dan, what, no tip? Dan said not for this rate!  He already got a forty dollar tip!

                 MORE BAT NEWS!!   Yesterday another exterminator came.  The day before the exterminator from Terminix told me that he saw some guano, bat feces, in my attic and they could " fix " my problem for a year contract of $1400.  Today another exterminator came, he was in the attic a long time.  He said he didn't see any guano in my attic.  He didn't think the bats were hidden in the eaves like the Terminix guy thought because of the lack of guano! The second guy told me to find a handyman to close up an opening near my top roof siding and see if that works.  If not, he said they can come back and seal up the house for $795.  I think the Terminix guy just wanted me to sign a contract. Day 6 of Being Thankful

   Today I am thankful for my daughter Olya.  We adopted Olya from Ukraine in 2009.. Olya with her bio relatives Olya with a friend at her home in Ukraine  She was ten and a half years old when we adopted her.  My friend Maggie had found her for me in Ukraine,  She knew I wanted to adopt another girl in the 10-11 year old age range. Olivia was driving me crazy, she always wanted to be doing something. She really wanted a sibling!  I told Dan that we needed to adopt another girl close to Olivia's age so she would have a sibling to grow up with. Dan was fine with it, I think he was excited to go back to Ukraine!   Maggie works for Frontier Horizons, a hosting organization that brings orphans to the U.S. and other countries for a cultural experience. Maggie visits orphanages and selects children for hosting. They try to select children who are available for adoption but that isn't always the case.   It really is a pre-adoption...

Day 175 of 365 Days of Being Thankful

     Today I am thankful for the wonderful day we spent yesterday.  We went to a restaurant to celebrate Renee and Adam's birthday with about 25 people!   Adam's parents and his brother Dan and his girlfriend came.  Renee and Adam and his brothers and wives/girlfriends and parents are all going on a trip to Lebanon in August.  Renee is excited because she has never been there! Walid's family, Adam's father, owns a huge hospital in Lebanon. It was nice to see all of them. Renee married into a lovely family!  After lunch we all went back to Renee and Adam's house for a large party.  I am guessing about 50 people were at the party!  There was so much food.  There were trays and trays of wraps, sandwiches, fruit, and vegetables.  A huge tray of sushi was demolished in an hour!  I am not a sushi lover or liker so I didn't help eat any of that tray!
